The anatomy of an agent

In the order a request flows through them: from what the agent may read to the record it leaves behind.

    Context

    Retrieval from your systems of record, scoped by the same permissions your people work under. The agent reads what it needs for the task in front of it.

    You decide which sources the agent may read.

  2. L2

    Reasoning

    Models chosen per task and per data boundary: open-weight models inside your environment, or hosted models on zero-retention tiers under your keys. Fine-tuned only where it measurably pays.

    You approve every model and where it runs.

  3. L3

    Tools and actions

    Every action the agent can take is defined, scoped and logged. Consequential actions route through a human approval gate before they execute.

    You decide which actions need a person.

  4. L4

    Guardrails

    Defences against prompt injection and jailbreaks, policy checks on what goes in and what comes out, and hard limits on what the agent may do.

    Your policies become enforced rules.

  5. L5

    Evaluation

    An evaluation harness built on your ground truth and agreed in Diagnose. An agent ships when it clears the metric, and is re-evaluated on every release.

    You set the bar it has to clear.

  6. L6

    Observability and audit

    Every retrieval, decision and action is traced, attributable and reviewable, with rollback when something needs to be undone.
